First boat ride!

Neighbor friends (who just moved into their newly built home!!) Pat and Karin bought a pontoon boat!  And invited me to join them for an outing on the lake!  Woohoo!  What fun!!  And was a beautiful day for it too.  So come see our lakeshore, from the water!

One of the nicer homes, just past where we live (on land, you go past a lot of "less nice" homes to get to these lakefront properties...).
 Love their trees and lawn.
And no boat ride with P&K would be complete without their sweet baby, Topo!  Here, Topo serves as tour boat navigator, helping to direct his dad who's at the helm.
See the two downed trees?  We may not have had a tornado with a recent storm, but we definitely had strong winds!!
This lake is not a very busy waterway, but numerous covered boat docks dot the shores.  I love the parti-colors!

And speaking of parties...  Nice hanging-out upper deck and slide!
Topo gives Mom some love (and vice-versa).
As well as really pretty homes and regular places, there are a few trashy yards and houses along the lake's edge.  This is not one of them...!!  I prefer photographing the pretty stuff, so you're going to see a lot more of that here!
 Nice, huh?
Dad does a great job of guiding this craft, but everything goes just a little bit better when the pooch is also on patrol!  Topo is starting to get a bit big for a lap dog, but us dog lovers don't seem to notice irrelevant details like that...!   : )
Some boat houses are just covered structures to park and protect a boat.  Others are boat palaces!
Another extravagant home and boat home!
No, it's not a shopping center...  It's somebody's cute little home!?!
This sad sight obviously started out as a deluxe house!  Not sure what caused the collapse, but it looks like a bad case of erosion might be the culprit...?
OK, real time update:  I think I found the right house using a Google search (a little hard to tell for sure because the intact home and surroundings looked so different!!).  If it's the same house, just a few years ago, it was someone's million dollar dream home.  But after standing tall for a decade, it fell victim to the ground giving way.  Arguably, because of rain saturating the ground, etc.  But I think it may be like the southern California coastline:  a set-up for failure.  I have certainly seen equally nice homes dangling over the bluffs there, ultimately succumbing to the combination of weak substrate and the ocean's constant pull.  To me, this shows ignorance/denial of the usually inevitable laws of physics, gravity, and geology!  Some areas are prone to erosion (they have been eroding for millenia!), and there are often obvious signs - if one looks carefully enough!  But humans are notorious for not seeing the obvious, if it's not something they want to see...!!!
It looks like the retaining walls, driveways, etc. have all caved in too...
 And on to happier scenes...
Another lakeside playground!
Pat and Topo bring us back to shore...
Topo's mom Karin unloads the "little guy."
Well, maybe he's not so little anymore!?!  To be fair, sizes are relative!  Topo's not a giant dog, just a growing puppy!  But Karin is a pretty (strong!) Tiny Mom!  : )

First flight!!!

Nope.  Our first flight was not in our airplane!
Our little Zenith was still in a parallel universe, in a state of disarray, in parts and pieces...
But one of the many things you gotta love about this place - help, esp. aviation help, is always on the way!!!  Here is part of Team Reassembly!
Rural sprawl...  Pilot in the hangar, piggy in a pen, Bill in his heaven...  The ultimate in man caves!
Bill builds another tall sawhorse thing to set the wings on during reattachment (so no one's arms fall off holding a wing for the hour or more of reattaching wires, tubing, etc.!!!).
No, our first times in the air over here were thanks to our new neighbor, Pat.  Pat and Karin (and new puppy, Topo!).  As you can see, there's been a lot of new going on for these folks!  In addition to getting their sweet baby golden retriever, they have been busy getting their house here built!  (it's actually almost done now, and they will start moving in within the next few days!!  And Topo is much bigger now than in this photo, taken back in mid-Jan.)  So they will soon be living only about a block down the runway from us!  They were the first couple we really met here, and we're so glad to have them as neighbors!
Pat, with his Stinson.
A huge THANK YOU to our sweet, thoughtful, generous neighbor for taking me up (then Bill) for our virgin flights here!!!  And it didn't hurt that Pat is a CFI (certified flight instructor!)!  Absolutely no trust or confidence issues here!!
Nice parking, eh?  Right in front of your own home!!  Folks can get sort of spoiled here...!
A winter overview of where we live...  So...this is the "ugly" season...(ha-ha!  Not very ugly!!!)!  But it only gets better from here!
There will be better photos coming in the future (Bill's not comfortable with me wagging my giant, heavy camera around in our little cockpit yet.  When he gets more familiar with the area and operations, I'll be taking better aerial photos!).  But for now, here's at least an idea of where we fit into things...  We're on the 27 end of the runway.  For you pilots planning on visiting us (yes!  Donnie and Jaye?!...??), just know that if you're landing that direction, you're coming in right over a bunch of trees...  And of course, the runway that looks plenty big on the ground shrinks from the air!!
A visual aid for the non-pilots...  It's not necessarily a short field (3100' runway), but you definitely are coming in over an obstacle!
And good little munchkins waiting at home...
So well-behaved!  Not really!  But they are when they have their "special collars" on!!
(a runway is NOT the place to have unsupervised, out-of-control pooches running about!!)

Crazy cajun fun restaurant: RAZZOO'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tyler, our nearest "big city" (well, it kind of is, and growing, I'm afraid...) is full of food! Restaurants everywhere!!!  (YAY!!)   We've been checking some of them out through a fun Thursday night dinner group.  But others, like this one, we've found on our own...
RAZZOO'S!!!  Well, guess their menu here will give you some idea... (if you can read any of it - try clicking on the photo - you can enlarge it a little that way).

Kind of have a clue about most of these, except the rat toes...!?!
Rope and netting ceiling decor.  And gotta love the loving details...
 like the possum...
I just loved the interior of this place!  Dr. Seuss goes Cajun!!!  But this was my favorite part.  Never seen it done before, and I love it!!  Very creative and pretty!!

Tracky rides again!

Time to take Tractor for his first motorcycle ride in the new neighborhood!

Outward bound!
Home again.

Yards

Here's a look at our back yard view, with different lighting...
Early morning, east light peeking out from beneath the cloud layer.

Some sun, some clouds...
Looking stormy...
Storming!
Oh yeah, one more backyard shot...!
And now, for the front yard view (of our neighbor's very pretty house)...  On a rainy day...
After a rain...
And at sunset.
 More sunset.
And a plane landing at sunset (and moonrise!)!
